    Do I need to register my credit card for the Verified by Visa service?

    No, all you need to do is make sure your mobile number is registered with us, because we may send you a one time passcode (OTP) to complete the online transaction.

    What is an OTP?

    OTP is a ‘’one time passcode’’. It’s a random number we send to your mobile number registered with us. When you enter it, you are completing a more secure level of online card transaction.

    How does it work?

    When you use your credit card online and it needs to be verified, a Verified by Visa screen will appear. You will be asked to enter the OTP we sent you by text. When you enter your OTP, you are accepting our Verified by Visa Terms of Service.

    How will I know the text is from AIB?

    The sender ID on the text message will be AIB.  We will not ask you for account numbers or PIN numbers. We will only provide the OTP in the text message.

    What will the text say?

    Here is a sample of the text we may send you. It will not identify you or your card:

    How long does the OTP last?

    It’s temporary and designed to be used for one transaction, so it’s valid for five minutes.

    What if I did not receive my OTP within 5 minutes?

    In the event that you did not receive your OTP within 5 minutes, click on the "Send new one time passcode" link on the Verified by Visa screen and a new OTP will be sent.

    What if I did not receive my OTP after clicking on the "Send new one time passcode" link?

     

    You’ll have 3 attempts of clicking on the "Send new one time passcode" link, then the link will be disabled. If this occurs, please contact us at 1890 242428.

    What is the registered mobile number?

    The registered mobile number is a mobile number which is linked to your credit card. We will show the last 4 digits of your mobile number on the Verified by Visa screen when we send you the OTP. If we do not have a valid mobile number registered for you, please contact us at 1890 242428.

    Can I opt out of receiving OTP's?

    No, if you use your card to make an online purchase with a retailer who uses the Verified by Visa service and authentication is required, you will be prompted to enter the OTP sent to you by text message.
